Today marks an exciting yet blessed, in the history of the Roman Catholic church. We got a new Pope by the name of Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio from Argentina. Born on December 17, 1936 in Buenos Aires, this 76 yrs old Cardinal is the first Jesuit to become Pope and has taken the name of Francis, after St. Francis of Assisi.
He struck most of the people including me because of his humility and simplicity.
Before his appearance at the famous balcony of St. Peter's basilica, the most awaited white smoke was spotted, wafting over the Vatican.
I was fascinated, teary-eyed, emotional and very delighted as i lie very much awake at daybreak watching the chimney with a white smoke (finally!) from a live coverage in our room television. I waited for this since the first day of conclave.
Likewise, thousands of people were jammed into St. Peter's square to personally witnessed this historic event as the white smoke emerge and the new Pope appeared at the balcony in front of them all.
Pope Francis humbly and calmly asked for the people's prayers.
"Let's pray always for each other. Let's pray for the whole world.
God bless Pope Francis, the Roman Catholic Church, and all the people in the whole world.
Send forth Your Spirit, that we may humbly be guided by your Divine will. Increase the gifts You have given Your Church so
that Your faithful people may continue to grow
in holiness and in imitation of Your Beloved Son.
We ask this through Christ, our Lord.
AMEN.
